Coach of the Finnish National Hockey team Jukka Jalonen said his player's gold win in the final competition was "well deserved" during an after-match presser in Beijing on Sunday.

Finns prevailed in the hockey competition at the Beijing Winter Olympics, scoring 2-1 in the final clash against the Russians.

"It is an honour to, first of all, to coach for this national team and to have a chance to play for a gold medal at this stage in the Olympics and even win it. We made Finnish sports history, and we are very proud of that,” stressed Jalonen.

Coach of Russian National Hockey team Alexey Zhamnov congratulated opponents with the win mentioning his team "was fighting until the end.

"The Finnish National team is very disciplined and plays, as one may say, like 'one system' throughout these years. Its play is very disciplined in defence and counterattacks. It is not easy to break that barrier. It must be anger that our attacks were lacking today,” Zhamnov concluded.

The Finnish National Hockey team won gold for the first time in Olympic history.
