Description

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa led the charge for Security Council reform on the opening day of the United Nations General Assembly High-level Debate in New York on Tuesday.

He told reporters that he would be speaking about the ongoing "wars and conflicts that are happening now [that] should come to an end", and was asked if "AfrIca will finally have a seat on the Security Council".

"Well we want Africa to have a seat, two seats on the Security Council, so that's what we calling for," he replied.

Footage also shows UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky all arriving.

Countries within the BRICS organisation have repeatedly called for reform of the UNSC, and shift towards a more 'multipolar world'.
