One person was killed and several others were injured following the collapse of a roof at Delhi’s airport on Friday, following torrential rains.
Footage shows the destroyed roof as well as members of a local maintenance crew trying to fix the damage.
"This was around 5.30 am I was sleeping in my vehicle. I woke up and went for a wash as I was getting ready for a pickup. There was a loud sound like thunder at 5.30 am, and when I looked up, the departure roof had fallen. Eight to 10 vehicles were damaged, and one person died on the spot," explained Anish Khan, one of the taxi drivers.
Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, explained that some flights had to be cancelled because of the incident, while those passengers affected would be reimbursed.
“Passengers are the first priority for us too,” he added.
According to local media reports, the airport area was hit by 148.5mm of rain over three hours in the early morning.
