The Head of Hezbollah's media office, Mohammad Afif, stated on Wednesday that the party's military capabilities and command system are 'fine', adding that the death toll among Israeli forces is 'large', during a media tour organised by Hezbollah for Arab and international media outlets in Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday.

This came after Israeli strikes on the area, which Israel claimed targeting 'military sites belonging to Hezbollah.'

Footage shows the extensive damage to buildings, cars, and roads in the area.

"Today, our forces engaged in the first heroic battle in al-Adaisseh, and also in Maroun al-Ras minutes before this news conference began. What happened in Miskafam today is just the beginning of what the occupation forces are going to face. The number of dead in the enemy forces is large today, and the news began to be announced successively, and their confession appeared in the media outlets," Afif said.

He went on to 'assure everyone' that the 'the command-and-control structure' as well as 'the military resistance capabilities' are 'fine'. "In addition, the war is in rounds, and if you managed to get us in the first round through assassinations and devastation, we are just at the first round only," Afif concluded.

He also stated that the Al-Sirat religious building, which had been targeted by the Israeli military, did not house any weapons, contradicting Israeli claims.

The latest wave of Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets began on September 23. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported 55 dead and 156 injured on Tuesday - and over 1,200 killed in total.

The Israeli military also announced a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, one soldier was reported killed in border battles. At the same time, Hezbollah said its fighters had clashed with Israeli soldiers on the outskirts of the villages of Maroun al-Ras, Udaysa and Yaroun.

Last Friday, a series of Israeli raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut killed Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and a number of other senior commanders. Iran also launched a wave of airstrikes on Israel on Tuesday night, saying it was in response to the assassination of Nasrallah and others.

Tensions between Lebanon and Israel escalated in mid-September after the detonation of wireless devices used by Hezbollah, which killed dozens and injured thousands.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,689 people had been killed and more than 96,460 injured at the time of publication.
