Description

Beijing condemned the recent anti-missile exercises conducted by the United States, South Korea and Japan off Hawaii, during a daily press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.

"As to who this military exercise is aimed at, you'd better find out from the United States. I would like to tell you that the Chinese side has taken note of the above-mentioned joint military exercises as well as the concerns expressed by the DPRK (North Korea) side on this issue many times," Wang Wenbin said.

The drills took place on August 8-14, with the Pentagon referring to challenges posed by North Korea and "rules-based international order."

"Attention should be paid to the negative impact of the above-mentioned military exercises on the situation on the peninsula, and the parties concerned should act cautiously and stop actions that exacerbate tensions and undermine mutual trust among all parties," the Chinese spokesperson continued.

Tensions are at an all-time high between Beijing and Washington, after both US Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a delegation of US lawmakers visited Taiwan, which China regards as its territory under the 'One China' principle.
