The sister of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed along with 9 of his family members in an alleged Israeli air strike on Al-Shati camp west of Gaza City on Monday, the Palestinian armed group said.

"Around one o'clock at night, this house was hit. There were about ten people in it, including the head of the family, Abu Ghazi, and his mother. This house and the surrounding homes were bombed," said a local. "There were no injuries among the neighbours, but there was damage to the buildings. We pulled out three bodies that were blown to pieces from the intensity of the bombing. There are seven martyrs under the rubble. We are doing what we can".

According to Israeli media, the IDF did not comment on the strike that killed Haniyeh's sister. However, it announced that it had targeted two buildings allegedly used by Hamas fighters in Al-Shati and Daraj al-Tuffah.

Footage shows the destruction of the house and locals clearing away the rubble to recover the bodies.

"Around one o'clock, we heard the sound because we were near them. Suddenly, dust started falling from our ceiling," said another local. "We came here and found people trapped under the rubble. We didn't know how to pull them out, and no one paid attention to us. Since the morning, ambulances have been coming and going, but no one helped us".

On Tuesday, The Palestine News Agency (WAFA) also reported that several people were killed and wounded in an Israeli shelling of Al-Maghazi and Al-Shati camps, as well as in areas in southern Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on northern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people and kidnapping more than 200 others, mostly civilians.

In turn, Israel launched a full-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursions, killing at least 37,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 86,000 others, as of the time of publication.
