Description

During a press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning called upon the United States to cease its interference in Cuba's internal affairs and take immediate steps to revoke Cuba's designation as a 'state sponsor of terrorism.' Mao Ning also urged the US to lift its long-standing embargo and sanctions on Cuba, emphasising the detrimental impact of these measures on the Cuban population.

"The more than 60-year US embargo and sanctions against Cuba have caused great suffering to the Cuban people, and to this day, Cuba remains unjustifiably on the US list of 'state sponsors of terrorism,'" Mao Ning stated firmly.

In a pointed critique of US policy, Mao Ning added, "The US should reflect on its behaviour and align its actions with principles of non-interference and respect for sovereignty."

Turning to the Middle East, Mao Ning expressed China's support for efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting peace and stability in the region. "China welcomes all measures to de-escalate tensions between countries in the Middle East," she affirmed, underscoring China's stance on diplomatic resolution and peaceful coexistence.

Meanwhile, in Kazakhstan, the 24th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is underway, with China actively participating. The summit, attended by leaders from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Russia, and other member states, aims to strengthen cooperation and address regional challenges. SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres are among the dignitaries attending the summit, highlighting international efforts towards multilateral diplomacy and regional stability.

Mao Ning's statements reflect China's proactive diplomacy in addressing global issues while asserting its position on regional conflicts and international relations. The remarks underscore China's commitment to multilateralism and constructive engagement on the world stage.
