"My father and mother alongside my siblings were martyred," the girl stated. "They initially had bombarded Yarmouk Street and our house there, I and my mother and siblings were injured so we relocated to my father's uncle's house, again they shelled the adjacent house, and had injuries, eventually we fled to our uncle's house, but it was shelled and all of them were martyred."
Footage shows Alma playing with her cousins inside a tent at a refugee camp in Rafah, where she is now under the care of her uncle, Sami al-Haddad.
"Alma's story is that all her family were martyred under the rubble of the building where the carnage took place. No one survived, including her uncles and grandmother," Haddad said.
"Alma is the sole survivor from that building after being retrieved by the civil defence staff from under the rubble after three hours," he continued.
Haddad added that Alma has been left in a 'distressing' psychological state following the incident and frequently dreams of her deceased parents.
"We have to give her the needed psychological comfort and support. Regardless of what we offer, the tenderness of her mother, father, and siblings cannot be replaced," he said.
Over a million displaced Palestinians have fled to Rafah, in the southern tip of Gaza following evacuation orders and Israeli ground incursions in the north of the enclave. The IDF claims that only Hamas locations and infrastructure are targeted in the current campaign.
