Description

The skies over Macao came alive with dazzling pyrotechnics displays on Sunday as the administrative region’s world-famous International Fireworks Display Contest made a triumphant return.

Footage shows thousands of spectators capturing photos and videos as colourful fireworks exploded over the Macau Tower, with their reflections glimmering in the waters of the Nam Van Lake.

Ten pyrotechnics companies competed for the top prize this year, with displays arranged by organisations from Spain, Russia, the Philippines, France, Canada, Thailand, China, Japan, Italy and Portugal.

China’s Dancing Fireworks Company won the championship, followed by Russia’s Pyro-Klass and Marutamaya Ogatsu Fireworks Co, Ltd. from Japan.

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has organised the competition since 1989. This year’s edition celebrates the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
