Description

Palestinian food blogger Hamouda Shakoura is working to provide delicious meals to the displaced children of Gaza, as seen in footage from Thursday.

"We have been eating canned food for five months, the same canned tuna, the same canned beans, and all in the same way," he explained. "So, I had an idea: why not do something innovative that would make people eat delicious food, teach them how to prepare it?"

Footage shows children gathered around Hamouda as he and his team unpacked, prepared and distributed fruit salad in the al-Mawasi camp, south of Khan Younis. His volunteer work takes him across the camps in central and southern Gaza Strip, where food can be scarce during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

"The idea for this initiative came from the fact that I used to be a food-related content creator prior to the war," he added. "I had an e-marketing company on social media platforms. So, I decided to create video clips about food, in addition to using my cooking expertise to not only prepare delicious meals but also help others."

The initiative is funded by the 'Watermelon Relief’ aid foundation - founded by activists around the world - that receives donations to set up community kitchens and serve the largest number of displaced people possible inside Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,020 people had been killed and more than 94,925 injured at the time of publication.
