Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said the Iranian response to the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus 'will inevitably be coming', speaking during his address on Al-Quds Day in Beirut on Friday.

"It is sufficient to listen to His Eminence the Leader's (Ali Khamenei) announcement and his subsequent speech. After the statement, he mentioned once or twice the response, Iran's heroic warriors, Israeli regret, and the slap that Israel will get. We can conclude and tell everyone who inquires on social media platforms to not worry themselves and to be certain that the Iranian response to the Iranian consulate attack in Damascus will inevitably be coming”, Hassan Nasrallah said.

He also stressed the readiness of Hezbollah militants for escalation in the region, saying that the movement 'never fears the war'.

"This resistance in Lebanon never fears the war and has managed its battle over the past six months and so far based on a vision and strategy complementary to the current battle in the region in order to achieve victory and keep Lebanon safe. However, it (the resistance) is fully prepared; morally, psychologically, administratively, militarily, and humanly for any war that the enemy will regret if it is waged against Lebanon".

Al-Quds Day is observed internationally with large rallies in support of Palestine and against Israeli occupation. The tradition began in Iran in 1979 at the request of then-supreme leader Ruhollah Khomeini.

Tensions have flared across the Middle East as fighting in Gaza continues for the sixth month after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials. Iran subsequently praised the attack but denied direct involvement.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 32,623 had been killed and 75,092 injured at the time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
