Several Melbourne residents shared their reactions to Novak Djokovic's expulsion from the Australian Open outside the venue at Melbourne Park on Monday's opening day.

A few protesters gathered outside the venue, showing opposition to the government's decision to deport tennis star Djokovic on Monday after losing an appeal against the Immigration Minister's decision to cancel his visa.

Police officers remained at the entrance to guard the situation outside the venue.

"I wasn't surprised that he was kicked out. I don't think it should have gotten as far as it did. I think if he didn't have a valid exemption, then he shouldn't have been allowed into the country in the first place," said Jessica, a resident.

"I think to get let in a country, you have to abide by the rules. So I think it is justified", said Max, another resident.

The protesters outside the venue openly disagreed with the Serbian tennis star being expelled and called into question the vaccination mandate in Australia, as they held banners and chanted slogans outside the entrance.
