Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for an end to 'blind engagement' with China, at the Global Taiwan Business Forum in Kaohsiung on Tuesday.

"If we want a free 21st century, and not the Chinese century, the century which Xi Jinping dreams of, the old paradigm of blind engagement must end," said former top diplomat Pompeo in his speech to the business forum during visit to Taiwan.

Pompeo praising countries such as Japan and Australia, told that Beijing’s aggressive behaviour has brought like-minded nations closer together.

"China’s aggressive conduct, diplomatically, militarily, economically, they have waged a war, an economic war on America for decades, have changed this region. And it brought those who prefer peace and commerce even more closely together," he said.

Pompeo's visit comes ahead of five-yearly congress of China's ruling Communist Party in October, where President Xi Jinping poised to secure an unprecedented third term.
