Description

Dozens of activists are expected to lock themselves in the San Carlos Borromeo parish centre in Madrid on Friday in solidarity with Palestine.

"It could be a good opportunity to think about what we experience at the weekend," said Javier Baeza, a priest. "Above all, I think, to send that strength and that much-needed energy to the families that are still surviving the genocide that is being carried out".

Footage shows that before the action began on Friday evening, more than a hundred people gathered at the entrance to the centre with cardboard to make a Palestinian flag.

"Unless they don't say that we are doing what we can. We would love to be able to go to the arms factories and twist like that UN gun and twist the barrels," explained the priest. "We would love to be able to go and cover the eyes and the mouth and the hands, I don't advocate much more, of Netanyahu and his henchmen".

"We would love to be able to catch, each of us to our own devices, our Prime Minister to break off diplomatic relations with the Israeli Government. We would like a lot of things," he added.

Activists hung a large flag, over 18 metres long, made by residents of the neighbourhood, on the church building. Inside the main hall of the parish centre, the statue of Christ Crucified can be seen holding the Palestinian flag.

"I would settle for two people, three, one, to join the cause and fight for Palestine. I think we are doing what we can, as we have always done all our lives and everywhere," shared Victor Jimenez, an activist.

The event, organised by the Vallecas Con Palestine Assembly, will last all weekend and will include talks, workshops, popular refreshments and concerts.
