A unit of Russia’s International Mine Action Centre destroyed explosive munitions found earlier near Stepanakert, the Russian Defence Ministry announced, as seen in footage released on Tuesday.
According to the commander of the demolition unit Ilya Manyakin, “most of the destructive explosives were artillery shells, mortar mines, grenades and RPGs (Rocket-propelled grenade). Today 189 pieces of ammunition have been destroyed.”
Following more than six weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to end the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh on November 9.
Under the terms of the agreement, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region to observe the ceasefire.
