The witness described how the 25 police with German shepherd dogs were actively involved in investigating the scene. Late on Wednesday a gunman reportedly opened fire outside one shisha bar in the city's Heumarkt district and drove off to a second location in the Kesselstadt district where he opened fire again killing nine people and injuring several others. According to reports, the suspect was a 43-year-old German citizen from Hanau.
Together with his 72-year-old mother, he was found dead at his address in the early hours of Thursday morning. The Federal Prosecutor has taken over the investigation while it is thought that a far-right terror motive is behind the attacks.
