Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a statement on Monday following Israel's wide-scale airstrikes on Southern Lebanon, which reportedly caused the deaths of 274 people, as confirmed by Lebanon's Ministry of Health.
Netanyahu emphasised Israel's proactive defence strategy, saying, "We do not wait for a threat, we anticipate it," and highlighted the destruction of thousands of missiles and rockets aimed at Israeli cities. He reiterated Israel's goal of changing the "balance of power in the north."
The airstrikes come amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, a powerful Lebanese militia and political group, following cross-border shelling that started after the Israel-Hamas war broke out on 7 October 2023.
Netanyahu also urged Israelis to follow the guidance of the Home Front Command, stressing the need for unity and patience during the current crisis.
In response, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for missile attacks on key Israeli military and logistical targets in Northern Israel, further intensifying the conflict.
The situation remains volatile in Southern Lebanon, particularly in areas such as Tyre, Sidon, Nabatieh, and Bint Jbeil, with continued military engagements between both sides.
