Taiwan’s Deputy Chief of the General staff for Operations and Planning warned that the country would 'counter attack' if enemy aircraft and ships get too close, during a press conference in Taipei on Wednesday.
"The ROC (Taiwanese) army forces will follow the principle with 'Closer to the island, stronger countermeasures' to expel the aircrafts and vessels with the air and navy forces as well as the fire forces from the coast," Lin Wen-Huang said.
"For aircraft and ships that entered our sea and air territory of 12 nautical miles, the national army will exercise right to self-defence and counter attack without exception," the spokesperson continued.
China has been holding military exercises around the island following the visit of US Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taipei at the start of August.
"The ROC armed forces always act with caution and we will not initiate the conflict and will not escalate tension. However on the repeated provocative acts from PLA (China’s) drones, we will implement necessary measures to safeguard the safety of our offshore islets," Taiwan’s representative concluded.
