Description

Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon on Thursday following a series of electronic device detonations across the country over the past two days.

Footage shows plumes of smoke rising following strikes on the border towns of Marjayoun, al-Qantara, al-Shaqif Castle, al-Salouqi, and Froun.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed responsibility for the attack in an announcement stating the army was targeting 'locations affiliated with Hezbollah.'

"[The IDF] is operating to bring security to northern Israel in order to enable the return of residents to their homes, as well as to achieve all of the war goals," the statement added.

Israeli forces also claimed that Hezbollah 'turned southern Lebanon into a combat zone' and said the group 'weaponised civilian homes', 'dug tunnels' and 'used civilians as human shields'.

The Israeli airstrikes coincided with Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah's address to the nation on Thursday.

Nasrallah alleged that Tel Aviv was behind the mass wireless device detonations which reportedly killed at least 32 people and injured more than 3,000 others on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Hezbollah leader vowed 'just and tough retribution'. He also stated that Hezbollah will not cease its support for the people of Gaza and the West Bank until Israel's operations in Gaza end.

Israeli forces did not claim responsibility for the blasts or comment on the incidents.

Hezbollah, Lebanese, and Palestinian factions have been exchanging cross-border shelling with the Israeli forces since October 8, one day after the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
