The Serbian Interior Ministry has detained an alleged accomplice of the terrorist responsible on Saturday, for an attack near the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. President Aleksandar Vucic labelled the incident as a 'terrorist attack against Serbia,' where an assailant fired a crossbow at a police officer guarding the embassy. Fortunately, no embassy staff were harmed, and the injured policeman underwent successful surgery to remove an arrow from his neck.

The attacker, identified as Salahudin Zujovic, was fatally shot by the police officer in self-defence. Authorities were searching for another accomplice involved in the incident.

President Vucic assured the public that all diplomatic missions would receive heightened security, emphasising the government's commitment to ensuring safety and security. Before the attack, Serbian security agencies had been monitoring the assailants, but insufficient evidence prevented their earlier detention.

Interior Minister Ivica Dacic reported that several individuals have been arrested on suspicion of connection to the attack, with investigations focusing on possible ties to followers of the Sunni Muslim Wahhabi sect. Israel's foreign ministry confirmed the incident as an attempted terrorist attack near its embassy and stated that the embassy remains closed during the ongoing investigation.

The attacker had approached the police officer multiple times under the guise of seeking directions to a museum before suddenly firing the crossbow, according to Dacic.
