Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in a gala match at the VIII All-Russian Night Hockey League Festival in Sochi on Friday.

The Russian leader’s team won the game 14:7 with Putin scoring a record 10 of the goals, according to the Kremlin. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu also got on the scoresheet with a hat-trick.

Putin and Shoigu played alongside several hockey legends including Olympic champion Viacheslav Fetisov, Alexander Yakushev and Alexei Morozov amongst others.

Night Hockey League was founded in 2011 on the initiative of the Russian leader and with the support of Russian hockey veterans.

It is meant to attract adult Russians to the sport in the country, to popularise hockey and create an amateur ice hockey community, uniting all regions of Russia.
