Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz characterised the Nord Stream 2 project as a big opportunity for the energy security of the European Union. The statement came on Friday during a plenary session of the Saint-Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
"If you ask us about our estimates, we are very optimistic that it can be fulfilled. Germany, as well as other countries in our region and ourselves, regard this project as a big chance for European energy security. It is positive for Russia as well because we are consumers on the Russian market," stated Kurz.
Kurz also discussed multilateral relations between the EU and Russia in detail.
Austria, just as, in my opinion, many other countries, is interested in reducing the tensions and searching for stronger cooperation with each other. Because we are here on the economic forum for economy, well-being, working places. Cooperation is always better than antagonism," said the Austrian chancellor.
Kurz also touched upon the problem of Sputnik V vaccine registration in the EU, and how the European Medicines Agency is still to confirm the vaccine and give permissions to use it.
if the permission to use the vaccine was issued [by the European Medicines Agency] earlier, then we could already apply Sputnik V and the vaccination process would continue faster. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the permission, but I am optimistic about the fact that it will be granted," stated Kurz.
