Description

Visitors to the Tokyo 2020 Fan Park were given the opportunity to try their hand at paralympic sports on Saturday, following the commencement of the Paralympic Games earlier in the week.

Staff could be seen helping guests to test out sports wheelchairs used by the likes of paralympic athletes, which they were challenged to throw basketballs into hoops from, with other activities set up including bowling.

"The goal was very high, and even though I threw the ball from below, it wouldn't reach at all. It was a very good experience for me because I realised that unless I had a lot of muscle in my arms, I would not be able to shoot the ball," said visitor Jiro Yamamoto, who participated in the paralympic basketball activity.

Eiko Yamamoto, another park guest, explained how learning to play sports in such a way had helped her to 'understand the fun of sports by being creative.'

The Paralympic Games are scheduled to run from August 24 until September 5, after being postponed for a year due to the COVID pandemic.
