Libya’s Tripoli International Stadium was reopened on Friday, March 8, with a friendly match between the 'Legends' teams of AC Milan and Libya and Africa. The Italian team won 3-1 against the hosts. 

Footage shows stadium stands filled with cheering fans, as well as the dazzling opening ceremony of the host stadium, in addition to a drones forming messages such as 'The Return of Life' and 'Thank God'.

A large number of spectators flocked to the stadium, among them AC Milan fans aiming to get a glimpse of the legends from the club’s golden era including Dida, Rivaldo, and Cafu, winners of the 2002 World Cup with the Brazilian National Team, and Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf.

Tripoli Stadium had been out of service for the past two years due to maintenance work. According to the organisers, part of the match revenue will be donated to patients with Down syndrome.

This comes as part of a wider plan to restore normal life activities in the Libyan capital. Launched by the Libyan government, the initiative aims to achieve sustainable development in the country, with more focus on the economy, infrastructure, public services, and social stability.
