The UK's Prime Minister Boris Johnson chaired the meeting of the G7 summit in Cornwall on Friday as leaders sat down to begin the three-day discussion.
"And we need to make sure that, as we recover (from the pandemic), we level up across our societies and we rebuild back better. And I actually think we have a huge opportunity to do that because as G7 we are united in our vision for a cleaner, greener world, in a solution to the problems of climate change," Johnson said.
Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) consisting of Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, the US and Canada, along with EU representatives and leaders from guest countries including Australia, India, South Africa, and South Korea are attending the first day of the annual summit to focus on global issues and policies on Friday.
The US held the G7 Presidency in 2020 but did not convene a Leaders' Summit due to the global pandemic. For this edition, the UK aims to unite the members to discuss the post-pandemic recovery and environmental policies for the future.
