New Yorkers gathered to welcome the arrival of 2022, as is tradition in Times Square for the annual ball drop in New York City on Friday night.
Last year's event had a very limited capacity with just a number of frontline workers and their families in attendance.
This year's celebrations were closer to pre-pandemic ones with thousands of excited celebrants filling Times Square.
The crowd however was limited to 15,000 participants and mask wearing was enforced due to the ongoing problems relating to the COVID pandemic.
Also at the celebration was newly sworn in NYC Mayor Eric Adams.
