Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces continued around the Al-Aqsa compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Monday as police raided the area.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, 305 Palestinians were injured during the confrontation with 228 of them requiring hospitalisation.
Police forces were seen moving around the mosque, firing stun grenades and rubber bullets at protesters who responded by throwing rocks.
The escalation comes as Israel marks the Jerusalem Day in reference to the establishment of its control over the Old City after the 1967 Six-Day War.
Islam’s third-holiest site, Al-Aqsa, has been at the forefront of confrontations, most recently over planned evictions of several Palestinian families from an East Jerusalem neighbourhood.
An Israeli Supreme Court hearing in the case has been postponed indefinitely.
