An armed man was arrested while trying to enter the presidential palace in Buenos Aires on Monday, reportedly in an attempt to meet with President Mauricio Macri.
Police cordoned off one of the building gates while investigating both the scene and the confiscated weapon.
According to reports citing security officials, a man arrived at the presidential palace carrying a .44 Magnum Taurus revolver without ammunition, claiming he had a meeting with the president.
After officials confirmed there was no such meeting scheduled, the man reportedly dropped a box on the floor containing the gun before leaving. Security personal reportedly chased the man and arrested him at the scene.
Later in the day police and soldiers were scrambled following a bomb threat at the same location. However, no explosives were found in the vicinity of the presidential palace and the building was not evacuated.
The incidents come as Argentine lawmaker Hector Olivares died in hospital on Sunday after being shot near the National Congress.
