Residents of Berlin gave their thoughts and shared their hopes on Tuesday ahead of the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden in Washington DC.

"I hope that after Trump we are able to return to a 'good' normality of governing and diplomatic relations, but I am concerned, that we go 'back to normal' like under Obama's foreign policy, which was very focused on America," said Onno, a Berlin resident.

"I think it's crass, that still so many Americans voted for Trump after all the numerous catastrophic things that he did, and all those lies. That makes me think the Americans are quite stupid,'' said Annett, another Berlin resident.

"I hope that the administration and also the president himself will have a different dialogue with the international community,'' another Berlin resident commented.

On Wednesday, Biden is set to be inaugurated as the new US President in Washington DC replacing his predecessor Donald Trump who was elected in 2016.
