Christians were able to attend Palm Sunday mass on the exact site where they believe Jesus was crucified and resurrected.
"I am very happy to be here in Jerusalem at this moment in the holy week to be part of this Christian celebration," said Argentine catholic Brorto.
Pilgrims travelled from all over to take part in the commemoration. "I'm from South Africa, I came from South Africa walking through eleven countries to the holy city of Jerusalem," explained attendee Sayed Stakkala.
Palm Sunday celebrates the day Christian's believe that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey, and was hailed by the people with palm leaves. The day always marks five days before Jesus' death and is celebrates on the Sunday before Easter Sunday.
After the mass, the church members took part in a Palm Sunday procession. They marched bearing palm leaves from the Mount of Olives to the Old City.
