Chief Executive of Hong Kong John Lee promised 'national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation' during a ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

"Let us ride on the momentum of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC to advance reforms, progress, and prosper together with the country, and make new and greater contributions to building a great country and moving towards national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation," Lee said.

Footage shows the official ceremony held at the The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) before Lee addressed the crowd. He praised Hong Kong's achievements and its status as 'international innovation and technology centre' and promised to create better conditions for its citizens.

"My goal is for the people of Hong Kong to have a better life and live in better housing, for our youth to have better opportunities, and for our elderly to receive better care. I aim to achieve a caring and inclusive society where the people of Hong Kong can live and work in contentment," he stated.

According to the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI), Hong Kong ranks as the third-largest hub, ahead of Singapore and behind New York and London.

National Day is celebrated annually on 1 October as the founding day of the People's Republic of China, marking Mao Zedong's formal proclamation of its establishment on this date in 1949.
