Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock called for de-escalation between Israel and Hezbollah saying it was 'the call of the hour', ahead of a meeting by the United Nations General Assembly in New York City on Tuesday.

"The most important thing for the upcoming hours and also days that we contribute to de-escalation. Therefore I am holding constant talks here with different actors to highlight especially to those who stand behind Hezbollah that de-escalation is the call of the hour, we must work intensively towards that," Baerbock stated.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau voiced his support for a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine but stated he was 'preoccupied' by the steps taken by both sides in the conflict.

"We need a peaceful secure Israel alongside a peaceful secure Palestinian state and the fact that unfortunately both sides in that particular conflict have withdrawn and are distancing themselves from the two-state solution is something that deeply preoccupies me and many many countries in the world," he explained.

Antonio Tajani, Italiy's Minister of Foreign Affairs also commented on the two-state solution, saying that his country was ready to "send Italian soldiers to be part of this strategy" and called for a "strong engagement of the United Nations" towards that goal.

Tensions in southern Lebanon have escalated over the past week following the mass explosions of pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah and the Israeli shelling of Beirut's southern suburb, which has killed Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqeel.

In response, Hezbollah fired rockets towards northern Israel while the IDF stated it had struck 1,500 Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

At least 569 people have been killed and 1,835 others wounded, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported at the time of publication.
