ROC’s high jumper Maria Lasitskene, 28, shared her emotions during a press conference in Tokyo on Saturday, after shining in her Olympic debut.
“It was a very long journey, I believe I was hysterical - there is no other way to describe it,” Lasitskene said referring to her tears just after the result was announced.
“The finals turned out to be very difficult, a lot of unnecessary attempts, but probably it should have happened, probably I should have passed it. The most valuable is this medal,” she resumed.
On Saturday Lasitskene clinched her first Olympic gold with a 2,04-metre high jump. Australia’s Nicola McDermott and Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine took silver and gold, respectively.
