Thousands protested outside the United Nations building in New York on Tuesday against Iran's president ahead of his address to the UN General Assembly.

"We have come here from all over the United States to tell the world that Pezeshkian only represents a regime of mass murder and genocide and terror," Alireza Jafarzadeh, National Council of Resistance of Iran, said.

"This regime must be broken down by the people of Iran because they want democracy and freedom," he added.

Footage shows demonstrators waving Iranian flags and holding signs such as 'Head of Snake of War and Terror in Tehran', while a display of portraits of victims of state repressions can also be seen.

Protesters reportedly filled an entire block on 47th Street. Footage shows men and women holding thousands of Iranian flags, as well as figure representing Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran. The footage also shows portraits of victims of political repression placed on the road.

The Iranian president is expected to address the UN General Assembly on Tuesday afternoon.

The High-Level Week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly features speeches from the Heads of State and Government from 193 member states, running until September 30.
