Dough sculpting artist Xu Aihua showcased her bun-making skills on Saturday at her bakery in Taiyuan, Jinyuan district, where she made buns that looked like the popular Winter Games mascot, ‘Bing Dwen Dwen.’
“The most important part to make with Bing Dwen Dwen is the facial expression. Then, the part of leavening dough. If it is leavened to little, it won’t be fluffy. If it is leavened too much, it will be flat, which will not look so good. It also tastes bad,” commented Xu.
“The eyes of Bing Dwen Dwen are hard to make as well. There are four layers, we need to stick them one by one,” added Xu.
Xu uses red bean buns as the basis for her creation and estimates that the whole process takes around two hours.
Bing Dwen Dwen’s concept was first unveiled in September 2019, with the mascot being the creation of artist Cao Xue and his design team.
