The ceremony began in morning with Eid prayers, followed by offering sacrifices.
“Today, the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, we performed the Adha Eid prayers at the Zamalka Grand Mosque, one of the most ancient mosques in Damascus rural areas and Syria in general, which dates back to the Omari age," said Majid Nu’man, a lawyer and resident of Zamalka.
“The mosque was slightly damaged but renovated by beneficiaries and the local community. It still needs some final touches such as electricity and furnishing the upper floor. Several scholars, clerics and prominent figures have had studied in this mosque," he added
Eid al-Adha, or the 'Feast of the Sacrifice,' is one of the most important festivals in the Muslim calendar as it celebrates the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son when ordered to by Allah.
