Description

A calligraphy robot was brought in by the 2022 Winter Olympics organisers during New Year celebrations in the Main Media Centre, Beijing, on Tuesday.

"I saw it (the calligraphy robot) far from here, this (robot) is doing something like writing. So we just came here and asked what that (the character) means," said Hajeong Park, a journalist from South Korea.

The robot wrote traditional Chinese characters on red paper to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity for the New Year.

"They explained that this Chinese character means luck and happiness, and they gave it to me as a present," Park added.

This is not the first time that a calligraphy robot is making headlines in China. In September 2021, another calligraphy robot was presented at the 2021 World Robot Conference.
