Description

Footage captured on Tuesday night shows explosions in the sky over Haifa as what appears to be Iranian missiles being intercepted as Iran launches major attrack on Israel.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had attacked Israel with dozens of ballistic missiles, "striking important military and security targets deep within the occupied territories."

The Israeli military reported that Iran had launched 180 missiles, with the Israeli Chief of Staff describing the attack as 'serious' and warning of consequences.

IRGC also said that the strike was in retaliation for Israel's assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan.

The Israeli military declared that Iran had fired ballistic missiles towards Israel, causing nationwide siren sounds. Moreover, Israeli airspace was closed for some time, and citizens were ordered to take refuge in bomb shelters.

Israeli media reported that two people were slightly injured in Tel Aviv as a result of the attack, due to missile fragments.

The Israeli shelling targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27 assassinated Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei mourned Nasrallah, denouncing Israel, stating: "It knows that it cannot do much harm to Hezbollah's strong construction and that all resistance forces in the region are on Hezbollah's side."

Tehran has said the attack is in response to ‘the massacres in Lebanon and Gaza’ and retaliation for the assassinations of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, Hamas political chief Ismael Haniyeh, and IRGC advisor in Lebanon Abbas Nilforoushan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had ‘targeted important military and security targets in the heart of the occupied territories by firing dozens of ballistic missiles’.

On September 23, the IDF launched 'Operation Northern Arrows' with airstrikes against Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley and Beirut's southern suburbs. This was followed by what Israel says is a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion into Lebanon on Tuesday morning.
