President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he had dismissed his Defence Secretary Mark Esper, in one of his last personnel changes before he is expected to leave the Oval Office after his presidential election loss. Trump has not yet given a concession speech after his opponent, Joe Biden, declared victory on November 7.

"Mark Esper has been terminated," Trump declared in a tweet, adding that Christopher Miller, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center would be acting Secretary of Defence "effective immediately."

Mark Esper and Donald Trump have reportedly disagreed on several issues in the latest months. Trump is said to have been angered by Esper's refusal to back his intent to send active military forces to tackle Black Lives Matter protest in the aftermath of George Floyd death last May.
