04:18A family in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, has become a national attraction after lighting up their house with 60 thousand LED lights to 'bring some magic into the darkness' during the holidays amid the pandemic, as seen on Monday.
The Borcharts have been decorating their home for more than 20 years. Last year they had to pull the plug due to the COVID-lockdown, but now the lights are switched on again.
House owner and fairy-lights fan Sven Borchart said that this is a hobby for the family.
"It occupies us year-round, the majority of the Christmas decoration we built it ourselves. And we also do it all for a good cause. We collect donations with the house to support a project for therapeutic horsemanship. And naturally also for the children, who stand in front of the garden with shining eyes asking if the Santa Claus lives here," Borchart said.
He also claimed that the 'Weihnachtshaus' (Christmas House, in German) is one of the brightest in Germany.
"The children find it very pretty, they want to come and look at it. They are completely excited by the number of lights and the various Santa Claus," local residents said, adding that the house is even more special now that many Christmas markets had to be cancelled due to the fourth wave of the pandemic.
