Kazan residents cheered for 15-year-old Kamila Valieva on Thursday as they watched her compete in the women’s figure skating final at the Beijing Olympics.

Valieva led the field into the final skate but slipped to fourth after mistakes in her routine.

"She’s been under a lot of pressure from people around her. I think that she can’t put up with it psychologically. Because we know she can do better and she tried. We believed in her," one of Kamila's fans commented.

Another viewer stressed that the girl had suffered the pressure that "not every adult can handle".

"I think the fact that she came out today, she executed a programme, even if it didn’t work, that she’s already shown her willpower. She’ll be fine from now on," the man said.

Valieva was allowed to continue competing at the Games despite the emergence of a positive doping test result recorded prior to the Olympics.
