Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei delivered a televised speech in Tehran, Wednesday, prior to the upcoming presidential election.

Slamming Western media for discouraging people from voting, he said, "They want the people not to participate [in the presidential elections] so that the system will be weakened so that they can disrupt the country so that they can intervene so that they can make the country a haven for their mercenaries."

"The satanic power centres all over the world, those who are hostile to the Islamic Republic, are especially opposed to elections and disapprove it," he stressed.

The presidential election is scheduled for June 18. Under the Iranian constitution, Hassan Rouhani, the incumbent president, is ineligible to run for re-election as he was limited to two terms or 8 years in office. Opinion polls suggest that Chief Justice of Iran Ebrahim Raisi will get the seat.
