Former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Hossein Kanaani Moghaddam warned that if Israel tried to retaliate following a wave of Iranian missile attacks on the country, it would 'result in reaction tens of times more serious', speaking in Tehran on Wednesday.

“If the Zionist regime wants to be adventurous and make a mistake, based on the statement published by the IRGC, any military action against our oil fields, vital areas, our infrastructure and attempting to conduct a military attack would result in a severe reaction ten of times more serious than what was done in 'True Promise 2 operation'," he said, referring to Tuesday nights attacks.

He emphasised that the response would “not only [be from] Iran but the whole resistance front, from the Yemeni missiles to the missiles of Hezbollah and Hamas and Popular Mobilisation forces of Iraq and Syria."

Moghaddam also ruled out direct or indirect talks between Israel and Iran.

"Iran still has its previous conditions that the Zionist regime must stop its military and terrorist measures, do not threaten the national security and national interests of Iran, and put an end to its attacks against the Resistance Front," he said.

"The war machine of the Zionists must be stopped in the occupied Palestine to support the people of Palestine," he added. "We had previously stated this condition and reiterated it after the True Promise 2 Operation (latest missile strikes).”

Earlier, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated that nearly 200 missiles were launched from Iran, coming down in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other areas. Two injuries were reported, as well as the death of a Palestinian man in the West Bank, while Israel stated that many had been intercepted by its air defences.

Iran's iRGC said the strikes were in response to the assassinations of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoshan in Lebanon, as well as the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Iran had made a 'big mistake' and warned of 'consequences', while US President Joe Biden, who admitted his military had assisted in shooting down some of the rockets, called the assault 'defeated and ineffective'.

In April, the IRGC launched hundreds of drones and missiles towards Israel following a suspected Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus. On Tuesday, Israel also began a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion into Lebanon, following a week-long campaign of airstrikes in the south of the country.
