Description

The aftermath of airstrikes in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, was seen on Wednesday, with buildings, cars and streets destroyed.

Footage shows the huge devastation in the al-Rahibat neighbourhood, with smoke still rising from the attacks.

The latest wave of Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets began on September 23. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported 55 dead and 156 injured on Tuesday - and over 1,200 killed in total.

The Israeli military also announced a 'limited and targeted' ground incursion on Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, one soldier was reported killed in border battles while Hezbollah said its fighters had clashed with Israeli soldiers on the outskirts of the villages of Maroun al-Ras, Udaysa and Yaroun.

Last Friday, a series of Israeli raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut killed Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah and a number of other senior commanders. Iran also launched a wave of airstrikes on Israel on Tuesday night, saying it was in response to the assassination of Nasrallah and others.

Tensions between Lebanon and Israel escalated in mid-September after the detonation of wireless devices used by Hezbollah which killed dozens and injured thousands.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
