Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Vladimir Putin’s re-election as president provided 'additional guarantees' for strengthening Russia-China relations, speaking at talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing, Tuesday.

"Thanks to the leaders, Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic co-operation have reached an unprecedented level, without any exaggeration. With Vladimir Putin's re-election, the continuity of their comprehensive strengthening has received additional guarantees," Lavrov stated.

He also thanked the Chinese side for sending international observers to the presidential election and 'ensuring the sovereign rights of Russians.'

The minister also pointed out that the countries would continue counter-terrorism co-operation 'within the framework of multilateral institutions', in connection with the recent attack on the Crocus City Hall in the Moscow region.

Lavrov arrived in Beijing on Monday on an official visit. Ukraine's conflict, the Asia-Pacific were among the topics to discuss.
