Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) leaders arrived at the Independence Palace in Astana on Thursday to attend the landmark 2024 summit.

Footage shows the summit participants shaking hands with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and taking a joint photo.

The 24th SCO Heads of State Council meeting chaired by Tokayev is being held on July 3-4.

Leaders of member states are discussing the outcomes of the SCO's activities for 2023-2024, and exploring co-operation in political, security, economic and humanitarian affairs.

After the summit in Kazakhstan, the organisation’s presidency will pass to China for 2024-2025.

The organisation comprises India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as 14 dialogue partners and three observer countries.
