Russian State Duma Chairperson Vyacheslav Volodin arrived in Tehran on Wednesday to attend the funeral ceremony for Iran’s late president Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash at the weekend.

Footage features Volodin descending the airstair and shaking hands with Iranian officials.

Earlier this week, President Vladimir Putin announced that Volodin would represent Russia and asked him to convey his 'sincere condolences'.

The Iranian president, foreign minister Amir-Abdollahian and others were confirmed dead by state media and officials after their helicopter came down in the mountains of northern Iran during heavy fog on Sunday.

The Supreme Leader declared five days of national mourning. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will take over as acting president for an interim period, with elections scheduled after 50 days. Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani becomes acting foreign minister.

Condolences came from the leaders of Russia, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and others. Raisi, a conservative cleric seen as close to the Supreme Leader, was elected in 2021.
