Description

Brazilian Acting Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services Marcio Fernando Elias Rosa stated on the sidelines of the BRICS Industry Ministers' meeting in Nizhny Novgorod on Friday that a visit to Russia is always beneficial for politicians from the BRICS.

"The BRICS are an instrument of economic, political and cultural rapprochement - and Brazil supports that. Brazil supports multilateral mechanisms like the G20, the WTO (World Trade Organization), BRICS and it is always very useful to visit Russia, and Brazil learns a lot," the politician said.

Iranian Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Syed Mohammad Mousavi added that BRICS member countries are actively cooperating economically.

"One of the major achievements and developments that took place within the BRICS format was the establishment of the New Development Bank. This is a ray of hope for the BRICS member countries to break out of the unipolar world and to help and contribute to the development of the infrastructure of the BRICS member countries," he said.

The politician also highlighted the bloc's ongoing discussions over the potential creation of a common currency for BRICS member states. He claimed this initiative would 'solve many problems and challenges' faced by the alliance.

The eighth meeting of BRICS industry ministers was held on Friday at the Nizhny Novgorod exhibition centre.

Russia is to chair BRICS from 1 January 2024. Since the beginning of the year, five countries have become full members of the organisation; Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
