Russian President Vladimir Putin and Vietnamese President To Lam held talks in Hanoi on Tuesday.

"On behalf of the country and people of Vietnam, I bid you a most cordial and hearty welcome, Comrade Putin and the high-ranking delegation of the Russian Federation. I am very pleased over your state visit," To Lam said, welcoming the Russian side.

Putin arrived in Hanoi for a two-day visit on Wednesday at the invitation of Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the country’s Communist Party.

The agenda for the state visit also includes meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chair Tran Thanh Man.

The last time the Russian leader travelled to the republic was in 2017, when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Da Nang.

Earlier, Putin visited Pyongyang and held talks with DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) leader Kim Jong-un.
