06:52Russian Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Ella Pamfilova announced the final results of voting in 89 regions of the country, Baikonur, and abroad in the recent presidential election during a CEC meeting in Moscow on Thursday.
According to the CEC, 76,277,708 citizens voted for Vladimir Putin, representing 87.28 percent of the vote. Nikolai Kharitonov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) won 4.31 percent of the vote, Vladislav Davankov from New People party received 3.85 per cent, and Leonid Slutsky from the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) secured 3.2 percent.
The CEC reported a total number of voters who cast their ballots in the election was 87,576,075, resulting in a final turnout of 77.49 percent.
"This turnout, the number of people who came to the polls, is also an indicator of democracy," Pamfilova said. "Already degraded high-ranking Western officials hastened to declare - 'the elections are undemocratic, the elections are not free, the elections are illegitimate' and so on, the whole set of usual lamentations."
Russia's presidential election took place over three days on March 15-17, with early voting between February 25 and March 14.
